WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Hopkins Forest will be closed during the Massachusetts Deer Hunting Season. The season runs Monday, Dec. 1 - Saturday, Dec. 13, except for Sunday, Dec. 7. There is no deer hunting on Sundays in Massachusetts.
Deer hunting is used to manage the deer population in Massachusetts. It is estimated that deer population ranges from 85,000 to 95,000 statewide. The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife sets deer density goals below human tolerance limits.
