Mass MoCA Introduces New Story Time Educational Programming
Beginning in December, 2008 MASS MoCA will expand its educational offerings with a special story time for children the third Thursday of every month from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM. Free with admission to the museum (admission is always free for members). Children and their families are invited to join a MASS MoCA storyteller in the galleries for a fun-filled 45 minutes packed with books and games relating to selected works exhibited in the museum.Story Time is intended to encourage children to make connections between art and literature, as well as to help foster a better understanding of their own environments. Books chosen for the monthly readings will include new favorites and old classics that connect with exhibition themes or specific artworks. After Story Time children and their families are encouraged to grab a bite to eat in Lickety Split Café or visit the rest of the museum to make further associations between stories and art.
"Story Times at museums and libraries are somewhat of a staple for young visitor programming, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to draw in more children, parents and guardians for a focused visit at MASS MoCA, mid-week when the galleries are less busy," said MASS MoCA Education Coordinator Alison Basdekis. "Visitors can also take advantage of the free museum passes available to check out at local libraries."
