NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Johnson State College (3-2) scored the first basket of the game, but that would be their only lead of the game as MCLA (5-2) cruised to a 72-50 win. With a 57-38 rebounding margin and for the seventh straight time this season, the Trailblazers out-rebounded their opponents.
First year, Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) led the way for the Trailblazers and collected her first double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Junior forward, Laura Silverman (Ballston Lake, NY) kept pace with Wehner and earned her sixth double-double (fourth consecutive) of the year scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Badgers saw two players in double figures with both Andrea Deuell (Milton, VT) and Jenna Lewis (Middlebury, VT) scoring 11 points.
In the first half the Trailblazers went on a 12 point run to separate them from the Badgers. They would carry that momentum throughout the half holding a 43-20 lead at the break. MCLA’s Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA) worked hard on the boards pulling down eight rebounds. Wehner dropped 14 points and collected eight rebounds in the half to spark MCLA. Johnson’s Lewis scored five in the half.
Despite 23 MCLA turnovers in the game, 17 points would be the closest the Badgers would be able to come. Silverman was the high scorer with eight points for the Trailblazers in the second half.
Johnson will be back in action on the 9th of December when they will visit Norwich University.
On Tuesday, MCLA will travel to Mitchell College for their final game of the semester.
