Pittsfield Mails 3rd & 4th Quarter Tax Bills03:14PM / Tuesday, January 06, 2009
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has mailed third- and fourth-quarter property tax bills, according to City Collector Marilyn W. Sheehan.
The bill has two coupons enclosed with the third quarter due on Monday, Feb. 2, and the fourth quarter on Friday, May 1. Keep the receipt portion when sending coupons for payment to your mortgage company.
Sheehan reminds homeowners and businesses that payments received after the Feb. 2 date will be subject to 14 percent interest back to the due date. The collector suggests that mailing your payment at least five days prior to the due date to avoid any interest.
The new tax rates are $ 13.67 per $1,000 valuation for residential and $28.88 for commercial.
Payments sent by mail should be addressed: City of Pittsfield, P.O. Box 981063, Boston, MA 02298-1063
They also can be paid person at Sheehan's City Hall office, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Abatement applications for real estate and personal property are due by Feb. 2.
Exemptions for the elderly, blind, widows and veterans are being processed by the Assessors' office now. If you wish to pay before the exemption certificates are mailed, stop in the Assessors' office to have your bill marked; this cannot be done by telephone. Deadline for filing exemption applications is March 31. |
