Berkshire Humane Society Announces Coloring Contest for County School Children
11:43AM / Friday, January 09, 2009
PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The Berkshire Humane Society is conducting a coloring contest for kids in grades Kindergarten through sixth to celebrate the January 16th premiere of the new major motion picture, “Hotel for Dogs” at the Regal Cinema at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesboro.
Prizes for the Most Original, the Best Coloring and the Most Imaginative will be awarded in two age groups; kindergarten through third grade and fourth though the sixth grade. A copy of the coloring contest page, designed by area artist Kim Arre-Gerber, of Animal Laughter Studio, can be downloaded from the BHS website at www.berkshirehumane.org. Or can be picked up at the shelter’s main lobby on Barker Road in Pittsfield.
All entries need to include the child’s name, grade and phone number on the back of the coloring page. The completed artwork can be left at the shelter or can be mailed to BHS - Hotel for Dogs Contest, 214 Barker Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201. All artwork needs to be at the Berkshire Humane Society by 6pm Thursday January 15th to be eligible for the contest. Winners will be contacted on January 16th, and the winning art work will be displayed in the Lobby of Regal Cinema, Berkshire Mall Lanesboro.
The Berkshire Humane Society has been helping animals and people since 1992; they offer free humane education visits and tours for area school children, a community pet-food bank for economically distressed pet owners, and works in cooperation with The Elizabeth Freeman Center to provide foster care assistance for the pets of women in crisis through PetSafe. BHS receives no public funding and relies on memberships and donations to continue to help animals and people.
In 2007, BHS adopted out 784 homeless animals from Berkshire County and its neighboring borders. The shelter is open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm, Thursday evenings 5-8pm, and Sundays 1-4pm. The shelter closes at noon on the last Wednesday of each month for staff meetings. The phone number is 413-447-7878 and website is www.berkshirehumane.org.
