Anyone interested in learning to quilt, brushing up on their quilting techniques, or taking an art class, is invited to register for the following workshops being held at BCC’s South County Center in Great Barrington.

“Quilting: Nine Patch Block” (WKS 2062), a continuation for beginning quilters, moves onto strip piecing, rotary cutting, matching seams and points. Students make a pillow, wall hanging or table runner. This two session class, taught by Elsa Karr, meets Saturday, March 14 and March 21, from 10 to 4. Cost for registration is $125.

“Focus on Watercolor” (WKS 1569), designed for students with some experience in watercolor, encourages participants to expand skills through exercises in saving whites, making textures, glazing, and working wet-in-wet. Classes, taught by Patricia Hogan, meet Wednesday evening, March 25 through May 13, from 6 to 9. Cost for registration is $225.

“Still Life: Flower Painting” (WKS 003) teaches students to make interesting, expressive compositions working directly from a brightly colored arrangement of flowers. The first two sessions focus on working with charcoal to get a sense of proportion and space. The last four sessions concentrate on painting and building a vibrant composition of color with emphasis on spontaneity and intuition. Classes, taught by Arthur Yanoff, meet Wednesday morning, April 1 through May 20, from 9 to 12. Cost for registration is $225.

“Art in Celebration” (WKS 1570) a new workshop, helps participants discover creative powers through music, movement and painting. Students are guided in exploring the beauty and challenge in painting with a full palette of color and art materials. Classes, taught by Harriette Joffe, meet Thursday morning, April 16 through June 4, from 9 to 12. Cost for registration is $225.

“Quilting for Adult Beginners” (WKS 2061) teaches quilting techniques as well as design and construction to beginning quilters who want to develop design as an expression of themselves. Participants create a project using the Log Cabin pattern. Classes, taught by Elsa Karr, meet Saturday, April 18 and April 25, from 10 to 4. Cost for registration is $125.

Another thing you might want to consider is doing a workshop on faux finish. It's creative and great because of all the folks doing home improvements now and staying in their homes. These guys will actually travel and do seminars like that: www.mojofaux.com
