Main Street Stage is proud to host Main Street Slam
09:43AM / Tuesday, February 03, 2009
North Adams, Mass. - On Wednesday, February 11th at 8pm, Main Street Stage is proud to host Main Street Slam, a night of slam poetry open to poets of all ages.
An outgrowth of the beat generation, poetry slams are an opportunity to hear poems spoken aloud. Slam poetry is its own artistic form. Intended to be read aloud, heard, and responded to, slams invite audience involvement in an active way. The audience is encouraged to respond to both poets and judges. The poetry is performed and judged by randomly selected audience members to determine a winner of the evening. Poems are judged Olympic-style on a score of one through ten. There are two rounds. Half of the poets from round one will continue to round two.
Poets should bring two to three pieces of original work. If there is a tie-breaker, they will need their third poem.
This slam will be hosted by Christian Pfieffer, a noted area poet, and host of 413 Slam, the poetry slam formerly held at Café Latino.
This event is the most recent way in which Main Street Stage reaches out to its community of artists. Additional community outreach efforts have included the summer free Shakespeare in the Park, RedRoom, and the recent First Annual Short Play Festival which continues performances this coming Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5 at the door; however, bartering is welcome.
