Castle Hill Theatre Company will present “The Bremen Town Musicians”01:29PM / Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Planned to coincide with spring school vacation, the Castle Hill Theatre Company of Great Barrington will present its latest Out-of-the-Box production “The Bremen Town Musicians” at Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum. Three performances are scheduled for Tuesday, April 21; Wednesday, April 22, and Friday, April 24, all at 2 pm. A Victorian Tea to meet the actors will be offered after each performance.
This favorite classic fairy tale tells the story of a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster, who are forced to leave their homes and make their way in the world. On their journey, they discover each other and how to create music. As they travel to Bremen to become musicians, they bravely confront robbers and restore their dignity. This is a funny, imaginative and heartwarming tale that will delight children and adults alike. The Out-of-the-Box title refers to a trunk on stage from which the players select appropriate props and costumes.
Castle Hill Theatre Company (CHTC) was founded in 2006 to increase the quantity and quality of family theatre productions in the Berkshires and the surrounding areas. Although their productions originate in Great Barrington, MA, they ultimately travel throughout the Northeast. Using magical sets, beautiful costumes and professional actors, CHTC adapts stories from the classics, fairy tales and myths and recreates these familiar stories in new and different ways.
Admissions for the play are $15 for Ventfort Hall nonmembers, $12 for members and $7 for children aged 17 and under. Reservations are recommended and may be obtained by calling Ventfort Hall at 413-637-3206. The historic mansion is located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox.
An Official Project of Save America’s Treasures, Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum offers tours of the historic mansion, as well as lectures, concerts, teas, theater and other programs. This elegant Elizabethan-Revival Berkshire “cottage,” listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is open to the public year-around and is available for private rental. Built in 1893 for George and Sarah Morgan (sister of the financier, J. P. Morgan), Ventfort Hall has undergone substantial restoration, which continues. |
