Friday: BCC Gallery Opening Downtown

Art galleries in train & bus stations? You bet! Don't miss the grand opening reception for Berkshire Community College’s new downtown gallery in the Intermodal Center! Friday Night: Italian Folk & Heavy Metal

Friday the Itam Lodge hosts a traditional Italian folk band hailing from NYC, the Italian Serenaders. Enjoy a night of Italian folk songs from all different regions of Italy along with pizza and fried dough. Later that night, mix it up and rock out with the Berkshires' female-fronted metal/rock band, Sifer, at The Crossroads. Sifer is a metal and hard rock band featuring all original music, heavy, melody driven vocals, ethnic percussion and industrial samples.

Saturday: 45th Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance

The Irish American Club of Berkshire County presents the 45th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance at the Elks Club! Sure to be a night of fun, the evening will consists of Irish delights such as a corned beef and cabbage dinner along with a musical background filled with bagpipes and a performance by the Farrell School of Irish Dance. In addition to the festivities, Robert Gagnon will be honored as Berkshire County’s Irish Person of the Year.

Mon & Tues: Excellent Eighties!

In 1984 the movie Footloose, starring Kevin Bacon, captured the heart of America. With its youthful spirit, dazzling dance and electrifying music, Footloose launched a dance craze that spread across the nation, and now is bursting onto the live stage at the Colonial. Monday night, have a totally excellent ‘80s evening and support Berkshire Community College at the same time! The evening begins with an auction and dinner by Mazzeo's Ristorante from 5pm to 7pm at the Masonic Hall, 116 South Street, followed by a live performance of Footloose across the street at the Colonial Theatre. A very special post-theatre dessert reception with the cast of Footloose follows.

Thursday: Sacred Feminine in the Bible

Thursday afternoon, the program "The Sacred Feminine in the Bible" will be offered by Andrew Cort, the author of a number of books including  Return to Meaning: The American Psyche in Search of its Soul. Cort will explore the biblical role of the sacred feminine through the Old Testament characters of Sarah, Rebecca, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Tamar, Zipporah, Miriam, Rahab, and the many "Marys" in the New Testament.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building. 

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu. 

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building. 

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.  

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns. 

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot. 

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
