IS183 Art School Announces It Summer Camp Programs for Children and Adults

IS183 Art School announces its 18th year of exceptional summer art camps for artists ages 5 and up! Camps fill up fast – so register now for a theme-based, one-or two-week session from June 22 to August 28.

Programs in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, metal working, sculpture, photography, fiber and mixed media are taught in a fun-filled, child-focused atmosphere at IS183’s historic landmark home in the Interlaken Village of Stockbridge. Each young artist’s camp session finishes with an art show at IS183 Art School, which family and friends are invited to attend.

5 to 7 Year Olds:

Our youngest campers can attend week long programs from 9:30 to 12:30 that include themes such as “Ahoy Mateys! Pirate Art for Girls and Boys,” “Deep Water World” and “Masterpiece Madness”.

7 to 10 Year Olds:

Young artists will spend the week with both a faculty artist and a ceramics teacher from 9:30 to 3:30. Themes such as “Junk Art”, “Walking with Trees” and “Pulp Art” will have campers exercising their creative muscles.

11 to 14 Year Olds:

Tween artists will integrate ceramics and other media including photography and metal working in four distinct two week sessions in IS183’s new “Express Yourself” series. Studio time is spent at IS183 and Wednesdays at the Chesterwood Museum.

Adults can renew their creative spirit in a week-long art intensive, June 22 through June 26 from 9:30 to 4:00. Programs include “Photography: Documentary Storytelling Farms” with Jason Houston, “Watercolor: Simple, Fast and Focused” with Mel Stabin, “Ceramics: Advancing Your Style and Skill on the Potter’s Wheel” with Ellen Grenadier and “Mixed Media: Sculpture at Chesterwood” with Gordon Chandler. Designed for amateur and professional artists, looking for an art adventure.

Lanesborough Passes FY 2027 Budget, Warrant Articles

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Town meeting on Tuesday approved an almost $14 million fiscal 2027 budget, and approved bylaws for short-term rentals and signage, and for public safety vehicles. 
 
Of the 20 warrant articles, one, Article 7, to use free cash to pay prior fiscal year bills of $941.27 was indefinitely postponed by Moderator David Rolle because the bills were for the fire association.
 
Some 247 of the town's more than 2,600 registered voters filled Lanesborough Elementary School, debating articles during a meeting that lasted more than three hours. 
 
The town's 2027 spending plan is up more than 10 percent, with the main increases from higher enrollment in the regional schools and the McCann Technical School renovation project.
 
Voters approved the assessment of $7,586,284 for Mount Greylock Regional School. They also approved Article 11, which was the use of $16,298.48 in free cash for the McCann's roof and window replacement project so as not to impact the budget. 
 
Ambulance Director Jen Weber is planning 24-hour coverage, which means more staff and a hike in her budget. Article 5 asked the town to appropriate $234,100 to operate the Ambulance Enterprise Fund for salaries and expenses, which passed.
 
Fire Chief Jeff DeChaine spoke to the audience on his articles and the need for a new truck to replace the 1996 fire truck, listed on the warrant articles for a total $813,366, which includes a $100,000 contingency cost on whether a 2026 model-year chassis can be secured before new emissions standards in 2027. If they get the 2026 chassis, that contingency likely won't be needed.
