LENOX, Mass. - Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum will celebrate Fathers Day on Saturday, June 20, a day early, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, with a Pirate Party that is designed to be fun for fathers and children alike. Mothers as well are invited to come along for the festivities.
Children and parents are encouraged to come in pirate garb. The main attraction will be the Nutshell Playhouse production of “Pirates!” followed by grub and grog (non-alcoholic of course!) in Ventfort Hall’s grand Dining Room – or weather permitting, on the Verandah overlooking the Great Lawn.
Thanks to the creativity of writer and director Don Jordon, who began by making up stories of pirates, ships at sea and buried treasures to tell his young son Alec, the formation of “Pirates!” came about.
Nutshell Playhouse presents this swashbuckling adventure featuring bold buccaneers, a mysterious map with a riddle, cursed treasure, a visit to an island that you can't see, a pirate ghost, and a magical journey to the bottom of the sea. Written and directed by Jordan, the sea-faring tale features mime, music, masks, and now puppets! Mike O'Brien joins Nutshell Playhouse as puppet creator/director, adding a fun new element to the already successful show.
Don Jordan has performed as a mime and clown throughout Europe and the U.S., has appeared on Broadway with Mummenschanz, and served as Artistic Director of San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus. He has taught at the Juilliard School, The Instituto De Teatro in Barcelona, Teatro Studio in Rome, Ohio University, Shakespeare and Company and currently teaches at Smith College.
Jordan says, “It’s important for children to learn that the theater isn’t just something ‘precious’ where you have to sit and behave…It’s like inviting them in to touch things in a museum.”
This performance will feature Berkshire County actors Wendy Walraven, Mike Trainor and Matt Coviello. Together they bring you a family performance brimming with excitement and theatrical innovation.
Admission is $15 for non-members, $12 for members and $7 for children under 12 years of age. Reservations are recommended. For further information call 413-637-3206 or click on to info@GildedAge.org Ventfort Hall is located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox.
