REACH offers free wellness screening at North Adams Farmers Market03:35PM / Wednesday, July 15, 2009
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - REACH for Community Health will sponsor a free wellness screening for community residents on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Adams Farmers Market on Marshall Street. The screening will be held in the front lobby of the St. Elizabeth’s Parish Center (formerly the St. Anthony Parish Center) directly across from the Farmers Market. Pre-registration is required. Community members interested in participating should call 413-664-5326 for an appointment.
The “Know Your Numbers” wellness screening will include a brief medical history including smoking and family history, a blood test to measure cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and a blood pressure measurement. A small amount of blood will be drawn from a finger stick. Nurses from North Adams Regional Hospital will discuss the screening results with participants.
“REACH for Community Health hopes community members who do not see a physician regularly will seize this opportunity to begin tracking their numbers. We are excited to bring community health education to the North Adams Farmers Market,” said Deborah Simmons, Executive Director of REACH.
The Know Your Numbers Wellness Screening is one of the many community health education topics that REACH will bring to the North Adams Farmers Market on Saturdays this summer and fall.
Other topics include stress management on August 1; nutrition featuring North Adams Regional Hospital Registered Dietitian Jaimi Tudor on August 8; tobacco treatment options featuring Tobacco Treatment Coordinator Jennifer Civello on August 22; healthcare insurance options featuring representatives from ECU-Care and BMC HealthNet on August 29; family emergency preparedness featuring Berkshire Medical Reserve Corp Coordinator Corrine McKeown on September 19; and women’s health featuring REACH for Breast Health Program Manager Polly Macpherson on September 26. |
