Downtown Celebration next week?
You betcha!
Thousands will gather on Main Street in North Adams on Wednesday, Aug. 19, for the annual city block party. There will be food, music, dancing, demonstrations, kids' activities and information booths. The DownStreet Art galleries will be open along with Main, Eagle and Holden Street shops and restaurants. Come on down and see and be seen.

Club Calco is a vintage dance party spinning a wild mix of retro super hits from the '60s – '90s, featuring glam, disco, new wave, soul, garage, pop, and rock 'n' roll. Lovers, lightshows, dancers, photos, fairy dust! Next appearing at The Alley, 23 Eagle St. on Friday, Aug. 14, from 9 to 1 a.m.


Enjoy nature’s bounty this Saturday from 8 to 12:30 p.m. at the Farmers Market in the municipal parking lot at the corner of Marshall and Center streets. Look for fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and more. Information: 413-664-6180.

  

Mass MoCA hosts a free, members-only Gallery Quest on Saturday, Aug. 15, at noon. Kids ages 6 to 12 and their parents or grandparents can join tour guides to explore the Simon Starling, Guy Ben-Ner and George Cochran exhibitions. Reservations recommended at 413-664.4481, Ext. 8112 or massmoca.org.

  

Lecture program "Native American Truths" will held Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Visitors Museum at Western Gateway Heritage State Park. The talk is free and open to the public and will address some of the most common historical and cultural misconceptions about American Indians. Questions encouraged.


Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art features Josh Ritter, Ben Kweller and more on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. The music fest features a  day and night of outdoor music with a spectacular lineup of bands, food and drink, gallery exhibits, etc. Festival happens rain or shine. Kicking off the Downtown Celebration on Aug. 19, our favorite historian hosts Paul Marino hosts a Main Street walk.

 

Advance tickets for attending the world-famous Lipizzaner performances at the Noel Field Athletic Complex on Friday or Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 may be purchased electronically at the North Adams Public Library Web page.


The North Adams Artists Co-Op Gallery is seeking submissions for its juried show "Elements." Fine and applied artists in all media are invited to submit work for display; call 413-664-4003 during gallery hours, Wednesday through Saturday, 11to 6, Sunday 11 to 4, or e-mail naacogallery@gmail.com.

 


Submissions to the North Adams EZine must be received by 4 p.m. Monday to be considered for inclusion in that week's issue and are subject to edit. EZine is published by the Mayor's Office of Tourism at 6 West Main St. All types of artistic, cultural, historical or recreational events happening in the greater North Adams area will be considered for publication.
