Jimmy Fund and Burger King A Chance for Kids Campaign02:12PM / Wednesday, August 19, 2009
BOSTON – BURGER KING® guests can help fight childhood cancers by donating $1 to The Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids® program at participating BURGER KING® restaurants through Sept. 7, 2009. With each contribution, restaurant guests will receive a scratch card guaranteed to be a winner with prizes ranging from airline tickets, theme park admissions and BURGER KING® food.
Funds raised during the campaign benefit the HAVE IT YOUR WAY® Foundation, the charitable arm of the BURGER KING® system, in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Through the A Chance for Kids® program, BURGER KING® restaurants have pledged to raise $1.2 million for pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In addition, the HAVE IT YOUR WAY® Foundation has committed to match 10 percent of the money raised, up to $100,000.
“The HAVE IT YOUR WAY® Foundation, in collaboration with the extended BURGER KING® family, is dedicated to making a difference in our local, national and global communities,” said Ivette Diaz, executive director of the HAVE IT YOUR WAY® Foundation. “We are pleased to support our franchisees’ local philanthropic efforts and partner with The Jimmy Fund to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.”
A Chance for Kids® and participating BURGER KING® restaurants have raised $8.2 million over the last eight years for research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year, BURGER KING® restaurants in 10 states will participate in the campaign: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
A Chance for Kids® supports the many young cancer patients who are treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Insitute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic. The lifesaving research conducted at Dana-Farber will ultimately help pediatric cancer patients from around the world.
“It is because of the compassion and support from the BURGER KING® system and their restaurant guests that we are able to move forward in our quest to more effectively treat cancer, with the ultimate goal of developing cures,” said Mike Andrews, chairman of The Jimmy Fund.
For more information about The Jimmy Fund or A Chance for Kids® program, including official rules and an alternate method of entry, visit a participating BURGER KING® restaurant, log on to www.jimmyfund.org, or call the Jimmy Fund at 1-800-52-JIMMY.
