Cantilena Chamber auditions for new season

LEE, Mass. - The Cantilena Chamber Choir has announced a call for singers for its 2008-2009 season.The Berkshire region's premiere a cappella choir is comprised of 24 singers who possess vocal training, good sight-reading skills, and considerable choral experience.

Rehearsals will be held in Lenox on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at Trinity Church, 88 Walker Street in Lenox. Singers are invited to sit in on the first rehearsal before committing to an audition, but must call or email to reserve a space. The season will include programs at Trinity Church in Lenox, and with the Empire Brass at the Mahaiwe Theater in Great Barrington.

The Choir’s website www.cantilenachoir.org contains information on auditions and past and present season’s programs.

Opening the season, the choir will present a concert entitled Shakespeare In Song with actor Jonathan Epstein the Trinity Church Choir in Lenox on Sunday, Oct. 11th at 5:00pm. The concert will feature John Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals, and Epstein will present a selection from his Berkshire Theater Festival Sonnets production. Actors from Shakespeare & Company have also been invited to present selected scenes. On Friday, December 4th, the choir will appear as special guests of the Empire Brass Ensemble at the Mahaiwe Theater, and present their own Christmas program with the Trinity Church Choir on Sunday, December 6th. The remaining concerts for 2010 will include a Berkshire Composer’s concert in March and a concert of Russian sacred music in May. 

Leading the group is Andrea Goodman, the director of the Saratoga Choral Festival and the the Northern Berkshire Chorale. She has directed the New England Conservatory Women’s Choir, the Concord (Mass.) Chorus, the Berkshire Bach Society, Skidmore Choruses, the NYU Choral Arts Society, and has a Doctorate in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
