The North Adams Public Library, Historical Society and Mill City Productions will commemorate Old Home Week, first observed in 1909. Events include the rededication of the Johnson Grays plaque at the gate of Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts on Marshall Street, open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6, with other activities to follow.

 

 

The Eclipse Mill Gallery invites members of the Berkshire arts community and the general public to the opening night reception for "Imaged Words" on Friday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on display each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 4 from noon to 5 or by appointment.

 

 

Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts hosts a double shot of Labor Day entertainment. On Friday, Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. in Club B-10, NPR's 2008 Best New Artist - Son Lux - performs as part of the Alt Cabaret series. Then on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m., Courtyard C plays host to an end of summer disco dance, powered by Brooklyn-based Escort. The dance will be moved inside the Hunter Center in the event of rain. Rain or shine, the North Adams Farmers Market will be open on Saturday morning, Sept. 5, from 8 to 12:30 p.m. Our favorite market time, with bountiful late summer harvest available. Call 413-664-6180 for more information.

 

  Local historian Paul W. Marino will hold the next in his series of local history walks for the season, a tour of Hillside Cemetery, on Saturday, Sept. 5. It will cover the north section only. Information: 413-207-1344.

The annual Fall Foliage Festival kicks off in North Adams on Saturday, Sept. 26, with the annual Charity Bed Race.


The 54th Fall Foliage Parade is Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m., with the theme "Taste of Northern Berkshire." This year's parade grand marshal is Carl Jenkins, former director of the Drury High School band. For more information on the parade or to volunteer, call 413-499-4000, Ext. 26.

 

 

DownStreet Art galleries throughout the city are open daily through Open Studios weekend, Oct. 17-18. Pick up an art map from the Mayor's Office of Tourism at 6 West Main or at Gallery 51 on Main Street. Information: 413-664-8718.



Main Street Stage is accepting playwright submissions for its second annual Short Play Festival. New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.
 
Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license. 
 
The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.
 
The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar. 
 
The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant. 
 
Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee. 
 
"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
