Civil War Re-enactors Camping at Natural Bridge02:03PM / Wednesday, September 09, 2009
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Natural Bridge State Park in North Adams will be the site of a "Living History Encampment" on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 to 5 and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 to 3.
The 10th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment will be portraying the life of infantry soldiers in the Civil War. Between 1861 and 1864 the 10th lost in excess of 700 of its 1,000 members to death, wounds and disability. As part of the VI Corps, Army of the Potomac, the 10th Mass distinguished itself for its patriotic zeal and fighting ability.
To honor their heroic deeds at places like Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and Petersburg, the present-day 10th participates in living history events, parades, re-enactments and patriotic observances. The regiment is chartered by the state's adjutant general as a heritage unit of the 104th Massachusetts National Guard, Blue-Gray Division.
This program is suitable for all ages and is handicapped accessible. A $2 parking fee will be charged per vehicle. The program is sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Hoosac Bank, Jack's Hot Dogs and American Legion Post 125.
