WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Last season the Ephs' allowed only four goals on Cole Field during the regular season, and while shutting out the opposition seems to be a common feat by the Williams women’s soccer team (2-0), some visiting squads have been able to slip through the cracks of the Ephs' defense.

Taylor Buchanan of Eastern Connecticut State (1-2-1) blasted a shot from beyond eighteen yards out before the close of the first period, but Bret Eisenhart’s three-goal outing put a clamp on any hopes of beating the Ephs' on their home turf today. Williams won their second game in the opening weekend of play, 4-1.

Eisenhart scored the first goal in both today’s and yesterday’s contest, setting the tone for the Ephs' this weekend. Following an Eph corner kick, the Williams forward collected a header from a Warriors defender, and laced the ball into opposite back corner of the net for the first goal. Eisenhart struck again just ten minutes later. Charging towards goal to receive a cross from Sarah Walmsley, Eisenhart forced the ball by a diving keeper for the 2-0 margin.

Although Williams had the two-goal advantage, Buchanan chipped the lead in half quickly after ripping a long ball over Ephs' keeper, Julia Schrieber, at the 40:10 mark.

“In general in the first half, we were linking passes but they were ultimately not productive,” said Williams’ head coach Michelyne Pinard. “Our transition in the attacking third was slow, which pulls our timing apart. ECSU is a good team, and they broke us down.”

The home team bounced back in the second half to score two goals, and ultimately tally the win.

“We knew that the first half was not our best soccer and we were determined to make it better in the second half,” continued Pinard. “I was proud of how we responded.”

Eisenhart scored her third goal with another second effort play by the Ephs'. Tyler Rainer founded Brianna Wolfson in front of goal. Wolfson attempted a shot but was blocked, and Eisenhart recovered the loose ball for the 3-1 lead.

“Bret is a pure goal scorer,” said Pinard. “It is nice to see that she is hitting her stride. We need her with Gaby [Woodson] graduating. We all knew she was capable, and I’m glad to see she is executing.”

Annelise Snyder closed out the scoring effort for the Ephs' with a long ball at the 78:05 mark.

The Ephs' will continue their home stand on Wednesday against Springfield at 4:30 p.m. on Cole Field.
