Golf Classic Raises $55,000 for Hillcrest Educational Centers

PITTSFIELD, Mass. –  Hillcrest Educational Centers’ 8th Annual Fall Golf Classic held on September 25, netted $55,000 to benefit Hillcrest’s educational programs, the fourth straight year, Hillcrest has netted more than $50,000 from this annual event.

The 18-hole scramble brought in a record 192 golfers to Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown and Donnybrook Country Club in Lanesborough, as Hillcrest expanded the tournament to two courses for the first time.

Hillcrest President Gerard Burke said, “We are grateful to see the generous response Hillcrest has received with our annual fundraiser. Clearly, adding a second course to accommodate the ever-increasing number of participants proved to be very beneficial.”

“Gross and Net” team prizes, “Closest to the Pin” and “Long Drive” winners were awarded at both courses. Auction items included a Tom Brady-autographed football selling for $1,000. Hillcrest students participated at both courses, joining each team to putt with them as they arrived on the 9th and 18th green. A team photograph was taken with each student.

Presenting sponsors for the fall golf classic were TD Banknorth and Salco Construction Company, Inc. General Contractors, both in Pittsfield. Additional lead sponsors included: Health New England, USI Insurance Services, Pignatelli Electric, and Climate Heating and Cooling, Inc.

Hillcrest Educational Centers is a private not-for-profit organization providing treatment and special education services to children and adolescents with unique psychological and learning needs. Hillcrest operates the Housatonic Academy, Berkshire County's only therapeutic day school located in Pittsfield, as well as three residential treatment centers located in Lenox and Great Barrington.  In addition, Hillcrest operates Hillcrest Dental Care, the largest provider of oral healthcare services to MassHealth recipient’s special needs patients. Striking Out Cancer in Berkshires Holds Sunday Party Before June 27 Games

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Striking out Cancer in the Berkshires has been bringing smiles for half a decade.
 
This year, it also is bringing Smiley.
 
A day of community baseball and softball games that act as a fund-raiser for the Jimmy Fund is the brainchild of Joe DiCicco, who has expanded the event’s footprint over the years and seen a steady growth in money raised as a result.
 
This year’s games are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 27 on Buddy Pellerin Field at Clapp Park.
 
But the festivities begin this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sideline Saloon on Fenn Street, where DiCicco invites families to come down, free of charge, to take photos with a Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy and meet Boston mascot Wally the Green Monster and Smiley, the mascot of the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.
 
“It’s just a little way to give back to the community to start the week,” DiCicco said. “Last year, we had the trophy for the first time, and they want to bring it back, so that’s a good thing. Wally is different, and so is Smiley.”
 
What has not changed is DiCicco’s dedication to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund, inspired by Einar Gustafson, a child who beat cancer with the help of Dr. Sidney Farber in 1948 and shared his story with the world under the name Jimmy to protect his anonymity.
