WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Williams College (5-4, 5-1 NESCAC) bounced back from their Wednesday night loss to Trinity to top Bates (1-7, 0-6 NESCAC) Saturday afternoon at Renzie Lamb Field. Each of William's five goals were scored by a different player exhibiting the Ephs depth. With only one loss in NESCAC, the Ephs are in a good position to keep collectively building and improve upon their season.

Only 4:23 into the first period, Bates senior Morgan Maciewicz made a pass to sophomore Jenna Dannis off a penalty corner who finished scoring the first goal of the game off their first shot attempt. Eph senior Whit Thayer (Lancaster, PA) quickly responded knocking down a first goal for Williams off an assist by senior Anne de Saint Phalle (Bronxville, NY) only three minutes later at 7:49. Williams gained the lead for good at 12:52 when de Saint Phalle made a second assist for the afternoon to junior Alice Bearn (Bethlehem, PA) who finished inside the circle to raise their score 2-1.

Eph sophomore Karen Moss (Medfield) prevented the Bobcats from tying up the score with a deft defensive save made covering for William's junior goalie Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, CT) who momentarily left the net to meet the Bobcat offense in the circle. With ten minutes left in the period, sophomore Meera Sivalingam (Philadelphia, PA) improved their lead to two when she contacted the net off a pass by senior Amy Siedlecki (Madison, CT).  Williams finished the half with an impressive 23 shots, 12 on goal, to Bate's 4 shots, 3 on goal. They also dominated in penalty corners gaining 11 to the Bobcat's 1.

Bates began the second similarly to the first scoring their first goal off their first shot 2:58 into the half when first-year Laura Baran finished in traffic off a second assist by Maciewicz. The Ephs returned the score to a two-point deficit in their favor 48:27 into the game off an unassisted goal by sophomore Margie Fulton (Wellesly). Williams maintained their 5-2 lead for the remainder of the game, clinching their fifth NESCAC win at the final buzzer. The intensity of the second didn't quite mirror the first, but the Ephs still took a respectable 13 shots, 5 on goal, topping Bate's 5 shots, 4 on goal. The Bobcats finished the half with 2 penalty corners to the Eph's 6.

Tulla finished with 4 saves and 2 goals allowed for the full 70 minutes of competition. Bates junior goalie Katie McEnroe ended with 12 saves and 5 goals allowed.

Thayer and Bearn each put together dependable performances for the Ephs each scoring a goal with Bearn tacking on an assist to boot. Despite their win, the Ephs didn't carry the same level of focus and desire from Trinity's game into Saturday's competition, but still finished with a reliable team performance to cruise past the Bobcats. On the whole, Williams has gained experience throughout this season contributing to their noticeable development as a team.

Coach Alix Burrale felt her team played a little sloppier than usual but finished inside the circle: "We were a little panicky at certain points, but it was a good conference win."

The Ephs will play again next Thursday against Hamilton at 6PM.
