First Community Dialogue on Race in the Berkshires

LENOX, Mass. - BRIDGE and the Multicultural Task Force will host the County’s first community dialogue “Towards Racial Justice in the Berkshires: Educational, Economic and Social Equity” on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 from 3 pm – 5:30 pm at Shakespeare & Company, Lenox, MA.
Entertainment, including a multicultural dinner consisting of a variety of ethnic dishes from local community members, will follow the dialogues from 6 pm – 7:30 pm.
The event aims to identify and address the current state of race in the Berkshires through group dialogues led by Multicultural Task Force Members and Department of Justice facilitators. The event will also feature two keynote speakers, University of Massachusetts professor Homer “Skip” Meade II, and Civil Rights litigator Samuel Miller, Of Counsel to Outten & Golden LLP.
The Multicultural Task Force was developed by Gwendolyn Hampton VanSant the Executive Director of BRIDGE in conjunction with Amy Albert, a Conciliation Specialist for the U.S. Department of Justice in response to a local need for community talks on racial issues. The Task Force is made up of local community leaders from many sectors including Chiefs of Police, School Superintendents, Church clergy, and Executive Directors of human service agencies.
A donation of $5 to attend the dialogues is requested or $15 with dinner included. Attendees are asked to register in advance by contacting BRIDGE at (413) 274-1001.
