SHEFFIELD, Mass. - Come get in the mood for the holidays and shop for special decorations and gifts and an early taste of holiday treats at the Sheffield Historical Society's 11th Annual Festival for the Holidays. The Festival affords the perfect opportunity to find a quality gift for an unbeatable price without having to leave town.

The Festival for the Holidays (formerly the Festival of Trees) will be open in the Old Stone Store weekends starting Saturday, November 14 through Sunday, December 20, Saturdays, 10 a.m. -2 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be special extended hours on the days before and after Thanksgiving, November 25 and 27, and the two days before Christmas, December 23 and 24, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Festive miniature trees, decorations, and holiday treats will be for sale throughout holiday season. Festival committee members encourage buyers to consider shut-in family members and friends who may have little room for holiday displays. Brighten their season with the gift of a unique, handcrafted item, wreath, or centerpiece. Choose from a selection of retired Rob Robins' paper sculpture greeting cards and an assortment of materials with which to deck-your-own halls!

A specialty of this year's Festival are the homemade preserves derived from local gardens. Society members have been busily canning and jamming carrots, cranberries, apples, pears, peppers, garlic, and even onions into unique blends of both sweet and savory treats. The Festival also continues to carry a spread of local crafts made by area artisans.

The Old Stone Store gift shop offers reproduction early American woven tablecloths, handcrafted brooms, framed silhouettes, and painted redware ornaments. The Store also carries quilts, painted floorcloths, baskets, Shaker boxes, handbags, local pottery and jewelry. And there's more upstairs--don't miss the holiday markdowns at the Stone's end-of-season sale!

Rescued and restored by the Society in the early part of this decade, The Old Stone Store is the Society's latest acquisition to its seven building campus. Dating from 1834 it is the oldest existing retail building in the town, and now functions as the Society's gift shop and exhibition space. The Old Stone Store is open weekends, Saturday 10-3 and Sunday 11-3, or by appointment. It is located on the Green in Sheffield.
