After the Ephs' Mike Acierno netted his first goal of the season at 11:37 of the second quarter to tie the contest, Skidmore took a lead they would not relinquish when Ben Cornell tallied a pair of goals and Mike Holden and Bryan Connolly added one each in a 7-minute span.
Skidmore led 4-1 at the end of the first period and 8-2 at the half. Williams was victimized by 19 turnovers over the first two quarters giving Skidmore additional opportunities to score.
Skidmore scored on eight of their 13 shots on goal in the first half, while Williams was successful on just two of five.
The Ephs tightened up their defense in the third period allowing only two goals, while netting one, making the score 10-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Ephs kept the Thoroughbreds off the scoreboard the entire fourth quarter, while netting three goals of their own to make the final 10-6. They took better care of the ball over the final two quarters, only turning it over eight times in the final 30 minutes, compared to their 19 turnovers in the opening 30 minutes.
On the day Skidmore fired 17 shots on goal and Williams mustered up 13. Ben Cornell was Skidmore's – and the game's – leading scorer with three goals; Mike Holden added two.
Connor Dowling backstopped Skidmore to the win by allowing just six goals and making seven saves.
For the Ephs first year Mericos Rhodes was the only player to net more than one goal and he had two. Evan Cohen in goal turned aside seven of 17 shots on goal by Skidmore.
The Ephs Corey Jacobs turned in another strong game on the face-offs, winning 10 of 18.
"Skidmore just jumped all over us from the start forcing a lot of turnovers and once they got the big lead it was hard to come back on them," said Eph head coach George McCormack. "In the first half our help defense was not in place and they got some good looks, but we tightened that up in the second half and had some success. We need to not play in spurts and take better care of the ball and we'll be fine."
Things won't get any easier for the Ephs as they next play at home on Saturday against defending NCAA Division III champion Tufts in a NESCAC contest slated to commence at 1 p.m.
