Adams Moving Forward With Rooms Tax Tuesday
ADAMS, Mass. — The town is proceeding with the proposed 2 percent occupancy tax despite finding an already approved 4 percent levy.Town meeting members will decide whether or not it will adopt the rooms tax at a special meeting Tuesday night, and decide whether to approve eight easements related to the extension of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.
"Town Council is comfortable with the article as written," Town Administrator Jonathan Butler said Monday. "As far as I know, we're going to continue with it."
The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is proposed to be extended 1.2 miles north from Hoosac Street to Lime Street. Multiple properties or sections of property will need to be taken by eminent domain. Agreements have already been reached with all of the property owners, town officials said.
Members will also decide on using Chapter 90 funds to reconstruct a retaining wall on Enterprise Street.
