WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williams College men's ice hockey team (4-0-2), ranked 12th natioanally, is soliciting donations from individuals and families in the Williamstown community, on campus, and from local businesses to support the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund.
As part of the effort, called "Goals to Assist the Children of Fallen Soldiers," the Eph pucksters are asking folks to pledge a donation for every goal the team scores at home this season.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Ephs have participated in the Goals to Assist funding program. At the end of the season, the Williams players will collect the donations and deliver 100 percent of the money to the fund to support the college educations of the children of state's soldiers who have lost their lives in the nation's service.
To date, the 2011-12 Ephs have already secured more than 20 donor pledges worth nearly $60 per goal.
The Williams team scored 48 goals at home last year and raised over $4,000. This year, the Ephs have set a goal of raising at least $5,000.
The Ephs will continue to accept donations throughout the season and would appreciate any support for fans can devote to this great cause.
To donate to the Ephs' "Goals to Assist," contact Williams team co-captain Ryan Scott at rjs1@williams.edu.
The Williams men's ice hockey team would like to thank the local businesses, along with the friends and families of Williams hockey, who are already generously supporting this year's fundraising effort, including:
The Williams Shop, Pappa Charlie's Deli, The Purple Pub, Water Street Grill, Desperado's Fresh Mexican Grille, St. Pierre's Barber Shop and the Orchards Hotel.
