PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Some of the best pizza around will be found at the Crowne Plaza this Friday at the 2nd annual Slice of Life pizza competition.

The fundraiser for Moments House, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting those with cancer, runs from 6 to 11 p.m. in the second-floor ballroom. It features music by Dennis Wixson from Bob Heck Entertainment, a Chinese raffle with more than 60 prizes, a 50/50 raffle and all-you-can-eat pizza.

Moments House was founded by mother and daughter team Alice and Danielle Trumbull after their friend Linda Palivoda died in December 2010 after an 11-year battle with breast cancer. Its name came from Palivoda's favorite quote: "Life's not measured by the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away."

The organization has been hosting programming and events at different locations while its been fundraising to create a permanent home to be more available to those in need.

"We want to have a comfortable, warm, homelike location where everyone can come for information about all the services available in our area, and comfort and offer support to one another," said Alice Trumbull, who works as a fundraising consultant.

The Trumbulls said they plan to offer integrative care to patients and their family and friends to complement existing medical services. Services and programs will include art therapies, mind and body therapies, dance and music, yoga, touch, workshops, support groups, social activities, and bereavement services. Services will be offered free of charge or for a nominal fee.

They're hoping the community will give them a fundraising boost on Friday while they select the best of the best in local pizza.

The event brings together local Berkshire County pizza eateries in a friendly tasting competition. Attendees will be able to sample pizza from all over the county and vote on their favorites. Awards go to the pizza with the "Best Sauce," "Best Crust," "Most Unique Pizza" and "Best Pizza in Berkshire County."

This year, Teddy's Pizza will be defending its title of Best Pizza in Berkshire County. Returning winners include Hot Tomatoes (Best Crust) and Baba Louies the (Most Unique.)

The Chinese raffle includes an extensive assortment of prizes donated by local businesses, including golf for two, movie passes, gift certificates, themed baskets and jewelry. Moments House will have an information table and Slice of Life event T-shirts will be on sale for $15 each.

Special thanks to this year's event sponsors iBerkshires.com, WRBK, Bob Heck Entertainment, Crowne Plaza Pittsfield/Berkshires, REMAX ZTeam, Massive Graphics, Berkshire Tidbits and Pizzerias.com.
