Drury Drama Team to Present 'The Wizard of Oz'

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury Drama Team has selected the musical, "The Wizard of Oz," to open its 25th season with more than 75 area students ranging from pre-school age to grade 12 involved in the production.
 
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17 at Drury High School, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance also on Nov. 10. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for students. They may be purchased at the door or in advance at Persnickety Toys on Eagle Street. There are no reservations.
 
The production is based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," with lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, music by Harold Arlen with borrowings from classical composers. Director and Producer Dr. Len Radin said this is the largest musical ever produced at the high school featuring its international award-winning drama team. Dr. Radin chose "The Wizard of Oz" for the drama team's 25th season spectacular because it gives the team the opportunity to cast a large number of city students spanning many ages. Additionally, Radin said he gets more requests to do "Oz" than any other production. Performances will also consist of the Jitterbug dance scene that is often cut from other drama troops when presenting the "Wizard of Oz." 
 
Cast members include  Lindsay Gray and Alyssa Richardson as Dorothy, Carlee Huttle as Scarecrow, Christa Sprague and Emily Eastman as Tin Man, Nick Burchard as Lion, Emma Gregory as Wicked Witch, Cameron Lapine as The Wizard Oz” Monica Thomas as Emily Gale, Christopher Wolfrum as Henry Gale and Mary Scanlon as Glinda. Elementary school students portray the Munchkins.

SteepleCats Fall in Extra Innings

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Ocean State Waves scored four runs in the top of the 11th and went on to a 9-6 win over the SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
 
Jack LaRose went 3-for-5 with a double in the game-winning rally.
 
North Adams (1-9) had a golden opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 10th.
 
With the game tied, 5-5, Nelphie Lopez started the inning with a sacrifice bunt to advance Bobby Stang, the "ghost runner," to third base. Ocean State (3-8) then intentionally walked the next two hitters to load the bases with one out.
 
Waves reliver Andrew Jacobs then got a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.
 
Jacobs struck out a pair and allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the 11th in three innings of work to earn the win.
 
North Adams used five pitchers. Joe LaPrade struck out a pair and allowed no runs in two innings of work.
