Join hundreds of festive faces as North Adams gears up for the holiday season with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Hometown Holidays kick-off event! A crowd will gather downtown to count down the seconds until the downtown streets come to life with thousands of glimmering holiday lights. There will be holiday music, shopping, hot chocolate, and more! After the tree is lit, stick around for a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. If you've been nice they might even have a treat for you.

Centered on movement, story, and sound, and housed within a light/sound installation of handmade, functional fish-skin lanterns, Niicugni equates the land we live on with the cells that comprise our bodies. During her residency Johnson will work on this piece with fellow performer Aretha Aoki, then present this work-in-progress showing. The sound is composed and performed by multi-instrumentalist James Everest and violinist/electronic musician Bethany Lacktorin. Lighting design by Heidi Eckwall.

You will carve your own 4x6 relief print from your own design or drawing. A relief print is created by inking the raised surface of the linoleum after other areas of the block have been carved away. The North Adams Museum of History and Science announces that its new Temporary Exhibit: "Hats: Their Creators and Sellers” is now in the gallery. This exhibit shows samples of hats made locally by milliners such as Mary Hatton, Anne Kelly and Louise Andrews as well as those made in New York or Paris sold in millineries or department stores locally. In conjunction with "Hats" Robert Campanile of the Visitors Museum in Building 4 will present a related lecture in the Shippers Office "Off the Top of My Head: A History of Hats” will be his topic. Admission to both Museums is always free.

Volunteer at North Adams' Tree Lighting Ceremony
November 21

The City of North Adams is looking for about 10 volunteers to help light the trees downtown during the annual Tree Lighting on the evening of November 21. Volunteers will be needed from about 4:45pm-5:30pm. 2-4 volunteers are also needed to be "Santa's Helpers', assisting Santa and Mrs. Claus hand out gifts. Clarksburg Sees Race for Select Board Seat

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The town will see a three-way race for a seat on the Select Board in May. 
 
Colton Andrews, Seth Alexander and Bryana Malloy returned papers by Wednesday's deadline to run for the three-year term vacated by Jeffrey Levanos. 
 
Andrews ran unsuccessfully for School Committee and is former chairman of the North Adams Housing Authority, on which he was a union representative. He is also president of the Pioneer Valley Building Trades Council.
 
Malloy and Alexander are both newcomers to campaigning. Malloy is manager of industrial relations for the Berkshire Workforce Board and Alexander is a resident of Gates Avenue. 
 
Alexander also returned papers for several other offices, including School Committee, moderator, library trustee and the five-year seat on the Planning Board. He took out papers for War Memorial trustee and tree warden but did not return them and withdrew a run for Board of Health. 
 
He will face off in the three-year School Committee seat against incumbent Cynthia Brule, who is running for her third term, and fellow newcomer Bonnie Cunningham for library trustee. 
 
Incumbent Ronald Boucher took out papers for a one-year term as moderator but did not return them. He was appointed by affirmation in 2021 when no won ran and accepted the post again last year as a write-in.
