Update: Greylock Insurance opened on Monday, Dec. 17, in its new location. Here's the picture they sent to prove it. :)

The former Toy Works space at Allendale Shopping Center has been renovated and Greylock Insurance Agency is closing in on moving there.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Insurance employees are just waiting for the go-ahead to move into the Allendale Shopping Center.

The insurance company hopes to close its South Street location and move the business into the newly renovated location by the end of the year. Operational and call center staff will follow shortly afterward, bringing a total of 75 to 80 employees there.

Last week, the company lifted signage on the former KB Toy Works location as a signal that they are on their way.

"We are very close. The contractors are putting the final touches on now," Greylock Federal Credit Union Executive Vice President John Bissell said on Tuesday. "We're down to the last-minute stuff."

The company announced the move in August and has been renovating the building since. Now only final touches and permitting await.

"It was very extensive renovation ... This has been a complete retrofit," Bissell said, adding that the move increases visibility, enhancing teamwork among employees, and is much more convenient for customers. Particularly, the exterior wall of the former box store has been fitted with large windows to let in natural light.

After receiving a certificate of occupation, the South Street location will close and BBE Office Interiors and internal staff will spend the weekend moving operations to be operational the following Monday.

"We're really trying to think through all the possible disruptions," Bissell said of the upcoming transition.

The insurance branch of the bank will have six locations across the county, with the South Street location closing and the Kellogg Street site becoming solely a banking branch. The remaining locations in Great Barrington, Williamstown, Adams, North Adams and on West Street will continue operations.

The new location now expands Greylock's accessibility on opposite sides of the city. Allendale is also in the center of the majority of the city's retail sector as well as major entrance, bringing the branch into a customer's commute.

But while Allendale is more convenient for customers with insurance needs, they won't be able to do their banking there. The location will only be for insurance, operations and the call center, but Bissell said an ATM could be installed at a later time.

State Closes Brookside Road Bridge

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.— Brookside Road bridge was closed today following a routine inspection by the MA Department of Transportation.

Town Public Works Superintendent Joe Aberdale said the DOT inspection report now requires further state review and that there is no information yet on a timeline for reopening. Brookside Road is located south of town and runs east to Brush Hill Road and Boardman Street.

Aberdale said load limits on the older, trestle bridge have been disregarded for some years by heavy vehicles. He said that usage has likely taken a toll on the span over the Housatonic River.

Southbound drivers heading to Brush Hill and the north end of Boardman Street will need to travel further south on Route 7 to Kellogg Road and then onto Boardman Street, heading north.

"We will keep residents informed as we learn more from the state DOT," said Aberdale.
