This riveting film centers on the most cerebral of games: chess. Brooklyn Castle (by Katie Dellamaggiore, 2012) tells the stories of five members of the chess team at I.S. 318, a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national chess championships than any other in the country. Battling their opponents as well as recessionary budget cuts that threaten all extracurricular activities at their school, the students' dedication to their game magnifies their belief in the possible. Q&A with filmmaker Katie Dellamaggiore to follow.
