Through this exhibition MCLA Gallery 51 aims to explore the work of Hudson Valley contemporary artists and to know what is happening in the arts scene of our neighbor region. Other Hudson Chapter 1 will feature Jack Millard, Claudia McNulty, Jen P. Harris and J. Ryder Cooley. Together their works will form an eclectic view of artists from the Hudson Valley. The exhibition is the first of two shows. The second one will be held in occasion of DownStreet Art kick off on June 20.

Mark Kinver is an environment reporter for BBC News, based in northern England. He originally worked for the BBC in south-west England as a reporter, presenter and studio manager. Since 2001, he has worked for network and international news. During this time, he has been involved in the coverage of a number of high-profile stories, including the 9/11 attacks, the London 7/7 attacks, the Olympics as well as the tsunamis that hit the Indian Ocean region in 2004 and Japan in 2011.

The spring 2013 "Green Living" seminars at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) will continue on Thursday, in Murdock 218 with a lecture titled "Shared Streets." This lecture will be presented by Dr. Norman Garrick, professor of civil engineering at the University of Connecticut. Departing from the traditional philosophy of design of how transportation systems are designed, Garrick will discuss the idea of how "shared streets" can safely incorporate navigation by pedestrians, bikes, and cars in the same space. The series will continue on Thursdays through April 25.

DownStreet Artist Molly Hatch is one of the artists featured in the New Blue and White at MFA Boston. Using her grouping of plates inspired by the Baroque painting, The Swing, she will demonstrate how she translates two-dimensional drawings and paintings into three-dimensional ceramic forms. The artist will share her techniques for drawing in clay, including slip inlay and carving.

MCLA is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator for the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center located at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Gallery 51 on Main Street, North Adams, MA. The Coordinator will work with the Director of the BCRC providing administration and organizational support and leadership on several BCRC programs. As an example, the Coordinator will recruit, and manage MCLA's Berkshire Hills Internship Program (B-HIP), G-51 events, Downstreet Art, BerkshireArtStart, non-profit arts management series as well as other programs serving the college and the community.For a full description and to apply click the link above.

A committee is forming for North Adams Open Studios, happening in October, 2013. This event highlights local artists by having them open their doors for one weekend only to give visitors a look into the artistic process. Committee members are needed to help plan various components of the event including logistics, artist recruitment, special events, and marketing. The commitment level is entirely up to you! A call for local accommodations and extra rooms has been raised by MASS MoCa for the Solid Sound Festival. For the weekend of June 21-23, organizers are urging people who wish to rent rooms to register at Airbnb.com. Patrons who are looking to rent a local room will be sent to this website for listings. Provide photos when possible. While there is no fee to list your room, Airbnb collects a small percentage of the rental fee for processing the transaction.

VENDERS WANTED

Attention Crafters, Artisans and Artists!

The Farmers Market in North Adams, MA is looking for artisans and crafters to attend the 2013 summer Farmers Market. Any crafter with a food or kitchen-related focus (cutting boards, pottery, aprons, etc.) will be given preference, but others will be considered. Please keep in mind that this is a market for items that are crafted or created by individuals and artists. The market will take place every Saturday from June 29th to October 26th, between 8:00am-12:00pm. Vendors are required to set up by 7:45AM and stay for the entire market. DownStreet Art, a program of MCLA's Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, is pleased to announce an OPEN CALL for artists, curators, performers, and muralists for its sixth edition! For all the details on how to apply and to download the application form please click on the link above. Opportunities are many to show your work, present a new challenging curatorial project, perform in conjunction with one of the DownStreet Art Thursday and/or to paint a mural downtown North Adams. DSA 2013 will run from June 20 through October 31. There is no application fee and your work will be reviewed and chosen by a curatorial committee which includes representatives and curators from all the major museums in the Berkshire. APPLY NOW!
