PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Federal Credit Union surpassed its previous fundraising records, raising $129,355 for United Way.
Greylock employees raised $94,355 through raffles, Shred Day, flower sales, employee recognition night, bingo night and employee payroll pledges. More than 95 percent of employees donated to the 2013 campaign drive. Greylock provided corporate support for the campaign with $35,000, which included $5,000 contributed toward the 2014 Nissan Versa donated for the annual raffle through Greylock's partnership with Johnson Ford Lincoln Mercury Nissan.
Greylock President Marilyn L. Sperling acknowledged the efforts of Greylock's staff on behalf of Berkshire United Way.
"Once again I feel great pride for the way our Greylock team stepped up with support for the Berkshire United Way with donations of time and money," Sperling said. "The United Way plays an integral part in our community and we are always amazed at the overwhelming generosity and enthusiasm our people bring to the campaign."
The car giveaway also marked the 14th year that Greylock Federal Credit Union and Johnson Ford Lincoln Mercury Nissan have sponsored the drawing which allows the winner to choose between a new car or cash. The winner was chosen at the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce's monthly Chamber Nite event held at Greylock Federal Credit Union, 150 West St. on Jan. 15. The winner was Sally Rice of Peru who works for Crane in Dalton.
"I wasn’t even thinking of the contest," said Rice, "I was just hoping to donate to a good cause. It’s just a complete shock to me."
Tary Johnson of Johnson Ford Lincoln Mercury Nissan announced that they are thrilled to continue the tradition going forward in 2015.
