Williams Women's Lacrosse Wins in Overtime; Men Stay Unbeaten

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bridget Malicki scored with 2 minutes, 38 seconds left in overtime to give the Williams College women's lacrosse team a 10-9 win over Bates on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Ephs (3-2, 2-2 NESCAC) had a 9-5 lead midway through the second half when Becca Bell scored her third goal of the game, but Bates (5-4, 1-3) finished regulation on a 4-0 run.
 
Malicki finished with two goals and two assists, and Nancy Palmer had two goals and an assist for Williams.
 
Margaret Draper earned the win in goal with five saves.
 
Williams travels to Washington, D.C., to face Schenectady, N.Y.'s, Union College on Tuesday.
 
MEN'S LACROSSE
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College men's lacrosse team opened up a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to an 11-5 win over Bates on Saturday on Farley-Lamb Field.
 
The win by the Ephs (6-0, 4-0 NESCAC) snapped a two-game winning streak for the Bobcats (3-3, 1-3).
 
Five different Ephs scored in the first quarter. At 13:43 Bryson Gilbert-Bono notched the first goal of the game off a pass from Tanner MacIvor. Bryson Gilbert-Bono then assisted on an Andy Grabowski goal to make it 2-0 at 11:59. Jack Lauroesch scored an unassisted tally at 8:14. Steven Kiesel scored off a feed from Chris McLaughlin to make it 4-0 Williams.
 
"We were kind of well rested, not having a midweek game," Williams coach George McCormack said. "It's a tough week with midterms, but the kids were relieved to be done with the midterms and they came out and shared the ball and got good shots. Our offense as a unit played really well the entire game."
 
Thomas Fowler closed out the first quarter with an unassisted goal with just three seconds remaining.
 
The Ephs were led in scoring by Grabowski, who scored three times. MacIvor and Gilbert-Bono each registered two assists in the contest. Dan Whittam stopped 15 shots to earn the win in goal.
 
Williams travels to Florida to play Schenctady, N.Y.'s, Union College on Tuesday.

North Berkshire Community Dance

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass — On May 11, North Berkshire Community Dance will hold its monthly contra dance with calling (teaching) by Quena Crain, and live traditional fiddle music by masters of the New England contra dance repertoire.
 
The dance will run from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church, 906 Main St., Williamstown. Admission is pay-as-you-can, $12 to $20 suggested.   For more information, visit www.NorthBerkshireDance.org.

Contra dancing is a contemporary take on a living tradition. The music is live, the dances are taught, and anyone is welcome, with or without a partner — people change partners fluidly for each dance.  The caller teaches dance moves and skills as needed.
 
Quena Crain will call (teach) all dances, starting the evening with easy dances friendly to newcomers and families with children.
 
Music will be provided by Mary Cay Brass, Laurie Indenbaum, and Andy Davis
