WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Images Cinema continues its family-friendly film series Bright Young Things with a documentary about one of the world’s most successful toys.

In August, Images will screen "A LEGO Brickumentary." Narrated by Jason Bateman, this kid-firendly documentary explores the LEGO universe of creativity and inspiration. The narrative will take us to art galleries full of LEGO creations, introduce us to Master Builders making movies, explore the world of LEGO therapy and bring us along to meet AFOLS (Adult Fans of LEGO), each with amazing stories to tell. A LEGO Brickumentary explores the essential nature of human creativity and the ways we seek to build and understand our world.

LEGOs will be available to play with, starting 30 minutes prior to each show. A Q&A with Steven Miller, Williams College Mathematics Professor and LEGO-building record-holder, will take place after both shows. Shows are Saturday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 9, at 12:30 p.m.

Leading up to the screenings of "A LEGO Brickumentary," Images Cinema will hold a  “LEGO Drive.” LEGOs cannot be recycled, but they can be reused and re-enjoyed for generations. From now through Aug. 9, people can bring in their gently-used LEGO  bricks and receive a free pee-wee popcorn. LEGO donations will benefit the UNO  Community Center in North Adams. Images Cinema is located at 50 Spring St.

Bright Young Things continues in September with "When Marnie Was There," a latest film from Studio Ghibli and the director of The Secret of Arriety. With an English language  cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Kiernan Shipka, Geena Davis, John C. Reilly and Vanessa Williams, this acclaimed animated feature is a sweeping story of friendship, mystery and discovery.

In October, Bright Young Things presents "Fantastic Journeys: Animated Shorts." Originally presented at the 2015 Children’s Film Festival Seattle, this program features animated shorts from 10 countries, including France, Japan, Russia and the United States.

Regular ticket prices apply to all Bright Young Things shows.

Williamstown Fire Committee Talks Station Project Cuts, Truck Replacement

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires Staff
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Prudential Committee on Wednesday signed off on more than $1 million in cost cutting measures for the planned Main Street fire station.

Some of the "value engineering" changes are cosmetic, while at least one pushes off a planned expense into the future.

The committee, which oversees the Fire District, also made plans to hold meetings over the next two Wednesdays to finalize its fiscal year 2025 budget request and other warrant articles for the May 28 annual district meeting. One of those warrant articles could include a request for a new mini rescue truck.

The value engineering changes to the building project originated with the district's Building Committee, which asked the Prudential Committee to review and sign off.

In all, the cuts approved on Wednesday are estimated to trim $1.135 million off the project's price tag.

The biggest ticket items included $250,000 to simplify the exterior masonry, $200,000 to eliminate a side yard shed, $150,000 to switch from a metal roof to asphalt shingles and $75,000 to "white box" certain areas on the second floor of the planned building.

The white boxing means the interior spaces will be built but not finished. So instead of dividing a large space into six bunk rooms and installing two restrooms on the second floor, that space will be left empty and unframed for now.
