Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School Announces Sixth Grade Teacher

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School welcomes Jennifer Green as sixth grade class teacher for the 2017-18 school year.
Green was selected from a pool of applicants after a national search. She earned her master of education degree from Bank Street School of Education (New York, N.Y.). She also holds a bachelor of science in nutrition from the State University of New York (Plattsburgh, N.Y.). Green brings 16 years of teaching experience to her new position, including teaching at every grade level. The GBRSS Board of Trustees and Council of Teachers approve the hiring of Green to lead the class of 2020 through middle school, a period of exceptional human growth.
"We are so happy to welcome Jennifer Green as teacher for the Class of 2020," said the Steiner School's Faculty Administrator Michael Junkins. "After many years of teaching, she has chosen to pursue Waldorf education, and brings strong management skills into the classroom for sixth grade and beyond. With her love of international arts and culture, specialty in test and academic preparation for high school and wide experience in diverse learning styles, she is well prepared to meet individual student’s needs as they move into the accelerated, symposium-style classes of middle school at Steiner, and to provide effective exceptional readiness for the most rigorous high schools."
Prior to her current teaching position at Berkshire Country Day School, Green collaborated with a team of educators, board members and parents to plan and implement the opening of the Gateway Middle School in New York, where she taught core academic subjects including math, English, writing and history to children ages 7-15 with learning differences. She brings a broad cultural emphasis to her teaching, having developed a cross-curricular Spanish language and culture program, and created the middle school ceramics program, with a focus on sculpture and hand-building, glazing and kiln firing.
While at the school, Green served as teacher support for new staff of the Gateway School of Mumbai, India, for which she organized and led professional development workshops for new teachers. Additionally Green has worked individually with students to meet their educational needs and goals in English, math, writing, history, science and Spanish, and helped students prepare for high school entrance exams, create organizational systems and transition into high school.
In addition to her wealth of classroom experience, this summer Green will augment her training with sixth grade Waldorf curriculum preparation at Sunbridge Institute (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.), and will continue studies with mentor Stephen Bloomquist, master teacher from the Waldorf School of Lexington (Mass.), member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America Leadership Council and professor emeritus at Antioch University (Keene, N.H.). Green will continue under Bloomquist’s direct mentorship, along with a core group of Steiner School master teachers, throughout the school year.
"I am so happy to be back in the GBRSS community, both as a teacher and as a parent," Green said. "Middle school is a wonderful journey, and I am looking forward to working with and supporting the sixth grade through these years, as well as getting to know the families. I feel blessed and inspired to combine what I have learned throughout my career with the ideas and values of the entire Steiner community."
