Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Appoints New Medical Staff Leadership
BENNINGTON, Vt. — The physicians at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center have elected new officers to lead the organization's medical staff.
Dr. Themarge Small of SVMC OB/GYN was elected president and Dr. Marie George, an infectious disease specialist at SVMC Multispecialty Practice, was elected vice president.
"We are grateful to Themarge and Marie for their willingness to serve in these critical leadership roles," said Dr. Trey Dobson, SVMC's chief medical officer and medical director of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians. "They are both well respected among their colleagues and have the clinical experience and thoughtfulness we need in these positions."
Dr. Small is an obstetrician and gynecologist at SVMC OB/GYN. She received her medical degree at the University of California Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine. In addition, she earned a bachelor's in political science from the University of Vermont and a post-baccalaureate certificate in premedical studies from Mills College in California. She completed her residency in OB/GYN at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. She served as the chair of the department of OB/GYN in 2014 and 2015 and as the vice president of the medical staff since 2015.
In addition to her role at SVMC, she is a clinical assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine. Dr. Small is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. George is an infectious disease specialist at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, the chair of Antibiotic Stewardship, a current member and past chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and past chair of Internal Medicine. She received her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and attended University of Connecticut as an undergraduate. She completed her residency at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and a fellowship at Tufts University/New England Medical Center, both in Boston. Dr. George is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Infectious Disease. She is a volunteer physician at Bennington Free Clinic.
Both Small and George currently serve on the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Board of Governors.
