Douglas J. Snyder, 67

LEE, Mass. — Douglas James Snyder, 67, of Lee died Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was born in Pittsfield on October 18, 1951, to the late Willis Henry and Anna Mildred Cullen Snyder. Doug attended Pittsfield High School and was an All-Western Mass athlete in both football and won the State Championship in diving. After high school, Doug attended Berkshire Community College and then proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. Doug then continued his education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Doug was employed by the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth for many years as a recreational instructor and coach. He loved coaching baseball, basketball and swimming. Doug was a dedicated and proud father, watching his son play lacrosse, never missing a game.

Some of Doug's most treasured memories included his annual Ogunquit and Hampton Beach vacations, fishing trips and the Men among Men hunting trips. Doug also enjoyed Caribbean vacations with family and was a wonderful cook and thoroughly enjoyed hosting his family and friends for his holiday and summer pool parties.

Besides the love of his life, Lexy, whom he married August 13, 1982, he leaves behind his cherished son Michael Douglas of Lee; six siblings and their spouses, David (Ted), Larry (Colleen), Nancy (Bob Roots), Ron, Judy and Kim Snyder; and many close family, friends, nieces, nephews and the members of the Kunce family.

Funeral notice: Visiting Hours for Doug Snyder will be held Tuesday evening, November 13, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Daniel A. Cymer, parochial vicar.

Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. The world just lost a kind and generous soul which continues in life through his anatomical donation to New England Donor Services.
