Lucille V. Estes, 94

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Lucille Virginia (Dow) Estes, 94, of Williamstown, Mass., died peacefully Monday, January 14, 2019, at Williamstown Commons with family by her side.  

She was born in North Adams, Mass., on July 30, 1924, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Aleatheabelle (Brundige) Dow. She attended schools in North Adams, Mass. She married Earl T. Estes in December of 1940. In 1950, they built the Willows Motel on Route 2 in Williamstown, Mass., which was the first motel in Williamstown. They operated the motel until its sale in 1967. Mr. Estes died January 4, 1999.

Mrs. Estes enjoyed spending time with her family as well as bowling, crafts, knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, playing cards and "The Alley Game."

Survivors include her son, Robert E. Estes and his wife Janie of Maydell, Texas; her daughter, Cindy L. Wilkinson of Clarksburg, Mass., and her friend, Chester Oakes of, North Adams, Mass.; her grandchildren, Trina Carricart, Sue Gaona, Katie Porto, Jenny Byboth, John Estes, Rob Estes, Ondrea Estes, Jeffrey Wilkinson and Melissa Rustin; as well as 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way; nine great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Counter of North Adams, Mass., and Christine Tower of Rowe, Mass.; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first-born daughter, who passed away shortly after birth; her daughter Katherine A. Williams, who died January 14, 2015; and her sister, Marjorie Quimby, who died in 2012.

Lucille's family would like to thank the staff members at Williamstown Commons for their many years of compassionate care.  Also, the family would like to thank Hospice Care in the Berkshires for their care of Lucille and her family over the past several months.

Funeral notice: A celebration of Lucille Estes' life will take place at a later date. Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, Mass., is in charge of arrangements. Donations in Lucille's memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
