Janet Morton, 85

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —   Janet Martha Morton (Pedercini), a devoted mother and grandmother, was welcomed into God’s kingdom on June 15, 2021.

She was born in North Adams, MA on November 14, 1935 to Gertrude Emma Pedercini (Schmidt) and Joseph J. Pedercini.

After graduating from Drury High School, Janet began her career as a bank teller in North Adams. She took immense pride in her banking knowledge and was eager to assist anyone with their banking needs. Janet also worked in the office of Robert’s Company for several years before its closing. She returned to the banking world after Robert’s closed and worked as a bank teller again until her retirement. She was loved and appreciated by all the customers she encountered over the years.

Janet enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She looked forward to visits from her grandson, the daily crossword puzzle, watching the birds and enjoying her special treats. She had a passion for cooking and a special love for all of God’s creatures. Janet’s gentle soul, illuminating smile and quick wit will be just a small part of her legacy.

She was predeceased by her son, David Mark Morton and her sister Elfrieda Frese (Pedercini).

She is survived by her daughter Karen L. Bedard (Morton) and her husband John of North Adams, MA. She also leaves her beloved grandson Jonathan Bedard of North Adams, MA and her brother Alfred Pedercini of North Syracuse, NY, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

When I first started working for TD Bank. Janet was one of the first people I met. She showed me around the branch. When we got to the basement she told me that the bank held dances in the basement. She even showed me a mirrored disco-ball and showed me where they had hung it. She also told me the basement was haunted and there had been ghost sightings. I believed it. For so long I was nervous about going downstairs and I thought of the dances and what fun they must of had. A couple of months later I mentioned it to another co-worker who has been there a long time and I was told that there have never been dances downstairs and no ghosts either. Janet did that to the new people, she told them stories for a joke. I fell for it. Janet and I used to laugh about it for years to come. I will always remember Janet and her wicked sense of humor. R.I.P. my friend.
