Agnes T. Martin, 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Agnes Therese Martin, 83, of 52 Moorland St. and 74 Mile Stretch Road, Biddeford Pool, Maine, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at her home in Williamstown surrounded by family. Born in Hudson on Feb. 7, 1929, daughter of Albert and Agnes Gibbons Morel, she graduated in 1946 from Hudson High School and in 1950 from Smith College, where she starred as an all-Smith athlete in soccer and lacrosse. A devoted and loving mother of eight, Mrs. Martin taught Spanish at Northampton School for Girls prior to her marriage. She was active in the Williamstown PTA, a member of the Taconic Golf Club and of the Abenakee Club in Biddeford Pool and was a communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael. She and her husband, Dr. John J. Martin, were married on June 14, 1952, in Hudson. Besides her husband, she leaves her children and their significant others: four sons, Dr. Edward Martin and Linda Reznik of Cranston, R.I., Thomas Martin and Dr. Marianne Martin of Walpole, Dr. John Martin Jr. and Forrest McSurdy of Key Biscayne, Fla., and James and Melissa Martin of North Andover; four daughters, Dr. Kathryn Martin and Dr. David Systrom of Winchester, Susan Martin and Michael Welch of Portland, Maine, Ann and Peter Pfister of Darien, Conn., and Tricia and Harry Raphael of Needham; a sister, Mary Manwaring of Yarmouth, and 19 grandchildren, Grady Martin, Hannah Systrom, Conor Systrom, Sarah Muir, Brian Muir, Ben Martin, Jimmy Martin, Emily Martin, Meredith Pfister, Brooke Pfister, Mark Pfister, John Pfister, Kate Pfister, Tyler Raphael, Madison Raphael, Grant Raphael, Jayme Martin, Sabrina Martin and Dannan Martin. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Morel. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Martin will be celebrated Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 29, from 5 to 8 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Williamstown Food Pantry in care of St. Patrick's Church, 54 Southworth St., Williamstown, MA 01267 or through the funeral home.
