WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Mitchell Amstead scored midway through the second half to give the Monument Mountain boys soccer team a 1-0 win over Mount Greylock on Sunday afternoon as the Spartans earned a spot in the MIAA Western Mass tournament.
Amstead's shot from 25 yards out floated into the upper 90 and past the outstretched arms of keeper Cal Filson (two saves).
Mount Greylock (11-4-1) hit two posts in the first half but continued its recent frustration on offense.
Since their 2-2 tie with Longmeadow on Oct. 19, the Mounties have scored just two goals while going 1-3.
Both Monument (6-6-4) and Mount Greylock learn on Monday who they will meet in their opening games of the sectional tournament.
