SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Drew Alley scored 11 points, and the South Hadley girls basketball team held Drury to seven points in the second half en route to a 49-26 win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday night.
The teams went into half-time tied, 19-19, but the Tigers outscored Drury, 8-0, in the third quarter to take control of the game.
“Nothing bad to say about my team after our effort tonight,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “On the road against one of the best teams in D4 and we competed with them the entire game.
“It was an extremely physical game, but my girls stayed mentally tough despite many calls not going their way. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get any shots to drop in the third. We had two 3-pointers rim out that would have completely changed how the rest of the game went. Jacinta Felix finally got physically knocked out of the game with five minutes left in the game so I put my younger kids in and they were awesome.”
Brooke Bishop hit a pair of triples and led the Blue Devils with 10 points. Delaney Hayden and Ashlyn Hayden added five and four points, respectively.
Drury (6-8) hosts Pope Francis on Monday.
