The Berkshire Business Interns, winnowed from more than 500 applications this past spring, worked in 20 different organizations, businesses and municipalities throughout the county this summer. About two-thirds hail from the Berkshires.
The federal agency provides loans to small businesses to help them grown. Wendell Davis, the Region I New England administrator, said that capital component is what ultimately sinks many businesses as the owners just try to squeak by without putting in needed investment.
The goal of the challenge is to attract and develop new arts enterprises to join the Northern Berkshire cultural economy. The successful applicants will show that they can leverage existing cultural assets in the region and have the potential to attract investment.
A group of residents has petitioned the City Council to have police officers do regular foot patrols.
Will Singleton presented the petition to the City Council on Tuesday. He believes regular walking patrols will greatly improve officer's relationship with the residents.
