Madeline Tillem of Lenox was assistant stage manager for the fall theater production of "The Play That Goes Wrong," directed by Jim Van Valen, showing Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 in Muhlenberg College's Baker Theatre. A graduate of Miss Hall's School, Tillem is studying history and psychology at the college in Allentown, Pa.
 
Katie Aragon Alvarez of Pittsfield began her first semester in the fall of 2025 at Lasell University in Newton.
 
 

 

First-year students at Emmanuel College participate in its Day of Service. 
Olivia Goewey of Ashley Falls, Emanuel Brown of Great Barrington, Sasha Taft of North Adams, Molly Pope of Pittsfield and Jayne Beringer of Williamstown were among the more than 360 first-year students participating in Emmanuel College's New Student Day of Service in September. In addition to encouraging new students to embrace the Boston college's rich history of serving the common good, the day of service helped them connect with Boston and each other.
 
Simon Shin of Williamstown recently matriculated as a member of the class of 2029 at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Selected from a pool of 8,904 applicants to the college, Shin joins a college community of about 2,000 undergraduate students.
 
 

Graduations

 
Kenza Yousfi of Williamstown, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a doctor of philosophy in anthropology. He was one of more than 1,600 students who graduated in the summer and received an undergraduate, master's or doctoral degree. 
 
 

Academic Lists & Awards

 
Silas Rella-Neill of Pownal, Vt., was recently named to the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) fall All-Academic Team for men's soccer at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. The recognition honors those who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. Rella-Neill, a junior majoring in environmental studies, is a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt. 
 
Elmira (N.Y.) College has named Madison Lodowski and Stefan Zygawski, both of Pittsfield, to the dean's list for academic achievement for the fall 2025 term.
 
Matthew Kinzer, a Lasell University student from Dalton, was named to the dean's list for his academic performance in the fall 2025 semester at the Newton college.

Wendy Penner to Receive the 2026 Peacemaker Award

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - This year, the MLK Jr. Day of Service Committee announced Wendy Penner as the selected recipient of the Peacemaker Award.
 
The award will be presented at the annual Northern Berkshire MLK Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan.19, during the celebratory luncheon.
 
The Peacemaker Award is given annually to an individual or group in Northern Berkshire.
 
The award, which originated as part of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, honors individuals or groups who have contributed substantially to peace in our region. In general, the Peacemaker Award recognizes those who have a history of working with people and/or neighborhoods and communities to promote greater tolerance, understanding, and caring.
 
According to a press release:
 
Penner is a volunteer community organizer and has previously worked in the nonprofit world on issues related to the environment and substance use. Penner is committed to the northern Berkshire Community and to the idea of "think globally, act locally." She has helped lead initiatives for the citizen-led Williamstown COOL Committee for many years, which empowers people to address climate change through local action. She is a champion for public health approaches to support people impacted by substance use, a member of Have Hope Recovery Center, and the northern Berkshire HEAL coalition. Wendy is on the leadership team of the North Berkshire Indivisible chapter, Greylock Together, and she is currently co-president of Congregation Beth Israel.
 
The community is invited to celebrate the 2026 Peacemaker during the MLK Jr. Day of Service.
