Companion Corner: Tyty at the Berkshire Humane Society
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — There's a lovable dog waiting to find his perfect family at the Berkshire Humane Society.
iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.
Tyty is a 7-year-old pit bull terrier mix that has been at the shelter for about a month.
Canine caregiver and adoption counselor Simone Olivieri told us about Tyty.
"He is such a love, very cuddly. He doesn't know what a stranger is, because everybody is his friend, every single person he's met, he just immediately is drawn to," she said.
Tyty is on medication for seizures and will need someone who will keep up on his medication and give him a mellow home.
"Someone who's just gonna give him all the attention. He just wants to be loved, wants to be cuddled so someone who can be there quite a bit with him, a calmer home would be good, not too active, somewhere where you know it's not too busy for him," Olivieri said. "It's better if he stays pretty, pretty chill and he wants to just kind of take it easy."
Tyty should be the only animal in the house and he should be in a home with older children who can better understand his condition.
While he should be the only animal, Tyty does like to meet other dogs and can do playdates.
"He likes other dogs. He does well with greeting other dogs on leash and doing some controlled play groups. We are looking for a home where he is the only dog because of the seizure activity," she said.
But he does love to play but needs to keep an eye him so that he doesn't get too worked up, she said.
"He does love to play, he likes to play tug and fetch a little bit. Sometimes he can get a little too over excited. So keeping his arousal level kind of low and chill is pretty good for him and his medical needs."
Since seizures can occur it would be recommended that someone is home a lot of the time with him.
"A home that you know someone who's home often would be preferable again, because he does, has had seizures in the past and is prone to that," Olivieri said. "So someone can be very attentive to his medical needs."
He loves to go on walks as well and has been doing more socializing at the shelter and is encouraged to do more.
"Some of our volunteers have taken him to Tractor Supply, and he's like a kid in a candy shop. He just loves looking at all the stuff, all the smells, meeting all new people. He's just a social guy. So someone who's going to take him out and about and be social," she said.
Once you meet him he is sure to cuddle up with you and be a great companion when given the chance.
"He just has so much love to give, and you'll just get so much in return from this, this cuddle bug here. I mean, he doesn't get sick of love. He'll just sit here with you and soak it all in. He's just a lovely, lovely, happy, happy dog, good. You know, he's loved every person he's met, every dog he's met. He's just, he's just been a joy."
