Greylock Thunder 18U Team Wins Tourney in Extra Innings
TEWKSBURY, Mass. -- Paxton Ebling hit a sacrifice fly, and Izabela Tart doubled in a run in the top of the eighth as the Greylock Thunder 18-and-under travel softball team earned a 5-4 win in the championship game of the 37th End of Year Invitational benefiting ALS research.
The Thunder went 3-0 in bracket play on Sunday after starting the tournament 1-1-1 on Saturday.
Along the way, it avenged its only loss of the event, beating the New England Elite DiMauro squad, 5-3, after falling to that team, 8-7, on Saturday.
In the championship game, the Thunder edged the Shoreline Sting out of Connecticut behind pitchers Emma Lemire and Marlee Arnhold, who combined to allow just two earned runs.
Tart went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, and Ebling doubled in addition to her sac fly. Kaleigh Jaros sparked the offense by going 3-for-3 with an RBI in a seven-hit Greylock attack.
In the bottom of the eighth, Shoreline got a run across and put two runners on with one out before Arnhold got a groundball out to Nevaeh Lopez and a pop fly to Grace Julieano at first to end the game.
Greylock started its Sunday with the win over NE Elite DiMauro. Grace Julieano went 3-for-3 with solo home run and scored one other time in the win. Kenadi Arnhold was 2-for-3 with a double, and Tart doubled in a run.
Evelyn Julieano and Marlee Arnhold split time in the circle, striking out a pair and allowing three earned runs.
In the semi-finals, the Thunder faced off against the New England Elite Grinnell 16U team and prevailed, 12-10.
Grace Julieano hit another home run in a 3-for-5 day at the plate with five RBIs. Jaros was 2-for-4 with a triple, Ebling was 3-for-3 with a double, and Tart was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Arnhold went the distance in the circle to get the Thunder to the title game. She struck out four and allowed seven earned runs.
