Anselmo Ashe Benoni, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Anselmo Ashe Benoni, 89, of 345 Walnut St. died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at North Adams Commons.Born in North Adams on Dec. 12, 1924, son of Giuseppe and Maria Rossi Benoni, he attended local schools including Drury High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Spry.
Mr. Benoni was employed as a carpenter and contractor and was a partner with the Benoni & Viens Contracting business for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. One of his greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his family and friends.
His wife, the former Ida Rose Roy, whom he married on Oct. 25, 1950, died on July 22, 1984.
He leaves four daughters, Dawn Vadnais and her husband, Peter, of North Adams; Kim Laird and her husband, Fred, of Lee, N.H.; Diane Prevey and her husband, Mark, of Stamford, Vt., and Jacqueline Field and her husband, Ted, of the town of Florida; a son, Joseph Benoni and his wife, Paula, of Clarksburg; two sisters, Rose Maselli of Adams and Martha Robare of North Adams; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Helen Benoni and Inez Fierro.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Benoni will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at will be Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
