Vivian J. Tierney, 83

LEE, Mass. — Vivian J. Tierney, 83, of Pease Terrace in Lee, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Fox Hill Campground in Austerlitz, N.Y.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., on August 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Frederick and Marie De Balthazar Gibbo. She attended Waterbury Schools and graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury.

Mrs. Tierney worked for State Paint in Waterbury as a bookkeeper and then as a System Controller for Berkshire Corporation in Great Barrington, Mass. After retiring from Berkshire Corporation, Vivian and her husband of 64 years, William Tierney, toured the country for 12 years traveling to 49 different states. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and genealogy.

Mrs. Tierney is survived by her husband, William Tierney, whom she married in 1953; two sons, William Tierney and his wife Beth of Lee and Ken Tierney and his wife Cathy of Chelmsford, Mass.; one sister, Joyce Cooke of Prospect, Conn.; two grandchildren, Billy Tierney IV and Dawn Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Camden and Jordyn Simmons.
She is predeceased by a son, Lawrence Tierney, who died while serving in the US Army in 1976.

Funeral notice: A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee with Rev. Brian McGrath, Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Lee, officiating. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
