Dorothy M. Toomey, 86

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Dorothy Mae Egan Toomey, 86, of 15 Chicopee Street, Lanesborough, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on September 29, 1931, the daughter of George and Gertrude Liddy Egan, she was a graduate of Boardman High School in Youngstown, Ohio. She went on to a business school, took the civil service test, and moved to Washington D.C., to work for the federal government. 

Mrs. Toomey was a military spouse for 29 years, and as such, had the opportunity to travel with her former husband, and work as a U.S. government employee, with the Navy and the Air Force in England, where she also served as its NCO Club Secretary. Upon her return to the United States, Mrs. Toomey was employed as an Administrative Aide for the Social Security Administration for 30 years.

Mrs. Toomey had been a member of Berkshire Community Church in Richmond. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The “A” and Bass Ridge Golf Leagues, and also enjoyed bowling at Ken’s and was a member of three different card leagues.

Mrs. Toomey is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ann Toomey-Frazer and her husband, Malcolm J. Frazer, of Lanesborough; her sons, Patrick William Toomey and his wife, Mary, of Laurel, Maryland, and Michael George Toomey and his wife, Karen, of Coeurd’Alene, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, Malcolm W. Frazer, Shawn J. Frazer, Brittnea L. Frazer-Davis, Matthew Toomey, William K. Toomey, Darci D. Toomey, Amber J. Toomey, Mason Toomey, Ryan Toomey, Kaitlyn Toomey, Ethan Toomey, Brendan Toomey and Aiden Toomey; and 10 great-grandchildren, Alexis Toomey, Kaden Toomey, Dani Toomey, Sophie Toomey, Mollie R. Frazer, and Keira M. Frazer, Malcolm Frazer III., Charlotte Hess, Raia Davis, and Maeli Davis.

She was predeceased by a son, Daniel Martin Toomey, who died at the age of 47, on October 10, 2009.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Egan Toomey will be held Friday, October 20, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Angela Raciti, Pastor of Berkshire Community Church. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Alzheimer’s Partnership or to the Wounded Warrior Project, both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
