Donald A. Harvey, 84

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Donald Arthur Harvey, 84, formerly of Clarksburg, Mass., died on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his daughter's home in Stamford, Vt.

He was born in Clarksburg, Mass., on September 21, 1933, a son of Frederick G. and Viola May (Gelinas) Harvey. Donald attended local schools in Clarksburg. In his younger years, he worked at Sprague Electric in North Adams. He went on to work as a self-employed logger with his father (and later two brothers) at a lumber company, where he worked for many years. He retired in 1984.

Donald was an avid deer hunter and gardener and was known for his delicious fruits, vegetables and beautiful flowers that he grew and sold for many years, first at his mother's dairy bar and then with his brother at their farm stand and in later years right from his own home on West Cross Road, Clarksburg. He was proud to have gotten 111 deer over the course of his hunting career.

Donald was the widower of Myrna (Lavanway) Harvey, whom he married on May 1, 1954, in the First Baptist Church in Readsboro, Vt. She died on March 8, 2018.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Garlin and her husband, John, of Stamford, Vt., and Kathi Lampron and her husband, Daniel, of North Adams; grandchildren Alyssa Beebe and Jennifer Zahensky; seven great-grandchildren Olivia, Cameron, Avery, Chandler, Ginessa, Jaxon and Ryder Lee; as well as his brothers David Harvey and Raymond Harvey; and two nephews, Garret and Taylor, also of Clarksburg.

Funeral notice: A funeral service to celebrate the life of Donald Harvey will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.  

Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Donations in his memory can be made to the Clarksburg Town Library or the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
